edit file test/ and add line

set -x

after the initial comments, and just before line

test_description='the test framework itself.'

then rerun the test; I'd suggest script -c 'make test'
but that may not work on OS X -- anyway we're interested
the last lines so that is not necessary here.

At least we know it reached line 212 in test/
