in absence of these options I have

query.all=(is:spam OR NOT is:spam) AND (is:deleted OR NOT is:deleted)
search.exclude_tags=deleted;spam;

configured for notmuch.  Therefore I'am able to do searches
like

notmuch count -- 'query:all AND path:spam-old/**'

This also works in notmuch-emacs.


It's usefulness hinges on having only a static set of a few
excluded tags.
