I have written the promised test. I decided to match the "integration test" style
of most of the other emacs tests, rather than just testing the function.

I think this feature is currently undocumented, so let's fixed that
while we are paying attention to this part of the code. I was thinking
we should update the discussion at

but I'm open other ideas.

The commit messages of this series can both be improved; Rudolf's is
now somewhat redundant since I turned it into a test, and the test
should refer to something promising this functionality.
