In my config I have

[search]
exclude_tags=deleted

After upgrading from notmuch 0.38.2 to 0.39, and while I was updating my code to the new notmuch-search interface, I noticed that threads containing deleted message (for example deleted drafts which accumulate as one is editing/saving drafts) return message counts which included these deleted messages as well as the tag list of the thread that includes the "deleted" tag. For example

I get:

 0 mins. ago [1/10]   Al Haji-Ali          excluded tags not excluded from threads (draft new deleted)

I admit that I am not sure if this was always the behaviour, but in any case, I would like to suggest that such messages should be excluded from the thread as well so that only message without excluded tags are included in the search summary.
