Well, I chose the relative-path assumptions intentionally. The idea is that if I move my mail from ~/Mail to ~/mail then the .notmuch directory moves with it and everything continues to work just fine. Compare the way .git works and the database stays with the source files compared to the way cvs works, (where I always seemed to end up with source files disconnected from the database). So I might need more convincing to move the database away from the mail. -Carl
